Our Pillows
Our pillows are a perfect addition to finish off your gift. The pillows come in two different sizes 14" x 14" or 16" x 16". The outer layer is removable for easy washing. I've been giving the pillows away as birthday gifts for my daughter's friends. It so hard to know what to give so at least I know this is personal and cannot be duplicated.

Mimi & Lola?
So alot of you are wondering who's Mimi & Lola? My name is Laura and my mom's name is Lidia. When choosing our company name, we were thinking of the following:
We wanted a catchy but fun name. We didn't want to limit our company name to just blankets. And in the future we wanted to expand our blankets for adults. So we came up with Designs By Mimi & Lola. Mimi is my daughter Madeleine's nickname. I think it's cute and fun. Lola is my nickname. I was labeled on my wedding day. The French Jesuit priest filling in for my parish priest could not pronounce my name no matter how many times I corrected him. By the end of the night everyone was calling me Lola!
To this day, my friends still call me Lola.

Happy Mothers Day!
I hope you all have a wonderful mother's day. I'm a simple person. A great gift for me on Mother's Day is some peace and quiet, a Starbucks and a newspaper (and quiet time to read the paper). Last year I received a spa package from the Sanctuary Spa. My brothers and I pitched in and bought my mother a spa package for her since she's never been to one. Well...we booked a day in January of this year and I had an amazing time. As for my mother, she couldn't wait to go home. I guess being from the old school and not knowing how to relax, a spa day was not for her. She hated the hot tub (never been in one and found it too hot)she didn't like her massage (hated being touched) and she found it too time consuming! Hello! All she was thinking about was that I took her away from her housework and she had to get home in time to prepare dinner for my dad.
On the other hand, I didn't want to leave. I felt so relaxed and pampered the last thing on my mind was housework and cooking!
How generations have changed. My mom was bred to house keep and cook (which she loves to do) and I love to be pampered. Is it because I work fulltime, raise a family and maintain a home? Maybe my lifestyle is a bit on the stressful side and sometimes its nice to escape and relax for awhile.
I love the Sanctuary Spa and can't get enough. I always hint for a gift certificate around my birthday, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.
The Sanctuary Spa has many locations in the Greater Toronto Area. Visit their website at http://www.sanctuarydayspas.com

Etsy Store
In January we opened our Etsy Store. Please browse around. I didn't really promote this site that much. I plan to in the future. Etsy has a huge community of very talented vendors. I found some amazing things at very reasonable prices. You will find our bibs online and we will shortly release more styles.
Oh and one more thing! We have some stock that we are clearing out. We publish all our sale items on our Etsy Shop. If you need a quick gift take a peek.

Graciela Custom Cakes
My daughter's communion cake was hand made by a very talented lady Graciella. Her sculptures are hand made by her out of sugar. This is an image of my daughter that she made from a picture. After we ate the cake I removed the sculpture and stored it in my curio as a keepsake for her to remember her first holy communion. I would highly recommend her. If you are in the greater toronto area you should try her out! Her website is http://www.gracielascakes.com/
What A Busy Weekend
Well Madeleine's day finally came on May 4th. We celebrated her first holy communion. We had 23 guests. We had an ivory and blush pink theme. It was nice to have a small crowd. It was intimate and relaxed. Madeleine felt very special. This was her first event. She chose everything from the flavor of the cake to her bombiniere. Girls are much different from boys. Madeleine had to have her say on everything. My son Paolo couldn't care less when we planned his day. As long as we didn't fuss over him he was happy.
Oh well, it's nice to have a bit of both.
The bombiniere were decorated by me. I love decorating. Madeleine chose an english tea cup made in England and we also inserted organic tea. Bombiniere is an italian tradition. We usually hand this out as a thank you to our guests.

Support Your Local Cancer Society
May is a sign of spring and also a Campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society. My husband and I are strong supporters of this great organization. In July of 1998 I gave birth to my second child Massimo. He was born with a large tumour on his left buttock. He was with us a short while (only six months) but we learned so much from him and this horrible horrible disease. The Canadian Cancer Society and The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto were with us every step of the way. The staff and their services are bar none top notch. So please if you get a chance, donate to both organizations www.cancer.ca or www.sickkids.on.ca
